This status icon was formerly reserved for celebrity accounts, content kings, journalists and politicians. But now it seems that just about anyone will be able to verify their account with this digital badge of validation.
The issue is surely this was to help define official accounts from parody of fake accounts, to help users find their idols on the platform?
“We want to make it even easier for people to find creators and influencers on Twitter so it makes sense for us to let people apply for verification,” said Tina Bhatnagar, from Twitter HQ
“We hope opening up this application process results in more people finding great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for these creators and influencers to connect with a broader audience.”
